Sukhmani sahib pdf free download: Sukhmani Sahib is a prayer of peace which is associated with Sikhism. Sukhmani Sahib consists of 192 padas or we can say stanzas of 10 hymns. These padas or stanzas are taken from the holy book called Guru Granth Sahib which is also one of the important and most holy texts of Sikhism.

Sukhmani comprises two words in which “Sukh” means peace and “Mani” means wealth and treasure. Sukhmani Sahib belongs to Rag Gauri which means Purity.

Sukhmani Sahib was written by the fifth guru of Sikhism named Guru Arjan Singh in 1602. It was written in Amritsar, Punjab and Guru Arjan Singh first recited or sung this bani at Gurudwara Barth Sahib which is in Gurdaspur District of Punjab, India. 

Since it was firstly composed and sung  by Sikh Guru (Guru Arjan Singh) thus it is also called Gurbani. 

It is mostly known with the name Gurbani among the Sikhs. 

Sukhmani Sahib is available in small book format or Gutka form. 

Recitation of Sukhmani Sahib

Sukhmani Sahib is frequently recited by Sikhs. It can be recited in groups and alone as well. Sukhmani Sahib is among the famous Banis (Banis means saying of Sikh Gurus). Sukhmani Sahib can be recited either at Gurdwaras or at homes also but reciting Sukhmani Sahib at Gurudwara is assumed to be beneficial and traditional. 

Reciting Sukhmani Sahib usually takes one hour to one and a half hours. Now the question arises that “Can a person leave it to others for reciting? ” 

 Sukhmani Sahib is recited without taking any kind of break thus it becomes compulsory to make continuity anyhow. 

Reciting Gurbani of Sukhmani Singh is considered to remember the god which ultimately gives peace to one’s mind  and life as well. 

Why ‘Sahib’ word is Used with Sukhmani

Sukhmani Sahib is suffixed by the Word “Sahib”. It is because there is an understood convention in Sikhism, if there is any very sacred, pure and godly related term then that word is followed by the word “Sahib”.

History of Sukhmani Sahib

Sukhmani Sahib was created by Guru Arjan around 1602 preceding he gathered the Adi Granth. The Guru ordered it at Ramsar Sarovar , Amritsar which at the time was in thick woods.

It is accepted Sri Chand came to Amritsar to meet Guru Arjan and he occupied with the formation of Sukhmani. The Guru had written 16 canto and mentioned Sri Chand to complete the organization. Sri Chand out of modesty just presented the Salok from the Mul Mantar by Guru Nanak. Hence this Salok was put by the Guru in the beginning of the 17 canto.

Unmistakable Sikh holy person Baba Nand Singh would advise Sikhs to recount Sukhmani Sahib two times everyday.
